Systems Project Engineer

Must have Citrix VM Ware - networking skills

Birmingham Based

Salary GBP40- GBP45k dependent on experience

Project Delivery/Support engineer required working within a Technical Services Department as part of the Engineering and Project Team. The team is responsible for delivering a wide array of solutions and technologies - managing end to end operations for both internal and customer systems. This will be an exciting opportunity to integrate closely with customers - driving growth through the strategic use of IT.

Responsibilities

  • Taking lead point of contact and ownership of customer requirement for managed solutions
  • Operating as a technical account manager for specific customers
  • Representing the company in various stakeholder meetings
  • Creating detailed plans for projects - defining scopes, milestones and deliverables
  • Understanding the customers' business, identifying opportunities for new technology solutions
  • Providing 3rd Line Technical Support to 1st and 2nd line support desk where required
  • Designing, commissioning and managing cloud computer solutions consisting of some or all of the following components:
  • Firewalls, Storage & Networking (Routers & Switches)
  • Virtualisation Platforms
  • Window Server Platform - physical and virtual
  • Hosted virtual desktop systems
  • Back-up and Disaster Recovery Systems.

Infrastructure

  • Ensuring solutions are built securely, conducting any required hardening techniques
  • Maintaining communications with customer and internal stakeholders, ensuring updates are communicated clearly, professionally and on time
  • Creating detailed technical documentation of all solutions built and conducting handovers to the 24x7 support team for on-going support
  • Scoping and implementing upgraded to the back-end infrastructure
  • Providing pro-active support and continuous improvement across all solutions
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving technical issues or providing technical assistance/advice as required
  • Liaising with suppliers/vendors for support as required
  • Taking ownership of escalated 3rd line support requests, providing rapid fault finding and resolution to technical issues
  • Working with and mentoring the business as usual team

Skills required

  • Strong stakeholder management skills are a necessity
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills are a necessity
  • Ability to work under own initiative and/or part of a technical project team
  • Experience of Firewall technologies including Sonicwall
  • Windows Server - OS 2008 R2 onwards, including Server Core, AD, Group Policy, Powershell
  • Networking Fundamentals - VLAN/TAGGING, VPN, SD-WAN, Advancedd TCP/IP
  • Email servers - exchange 0365
  • Virtualisation - Esxi, VMware vSphere, Citrix XenServer, Hyper-V
  • Citrix NetScaler
  • Virtual Desktop - Citrix XENApp/XenDesktop, MS RDS
  • Backup and Recovery - Veeam, Mozy
  • Network Switched and Routers - DELL, Cisco, HP

Preferred Skills

  • Office 365 - Sahrepoint, Exchane Online
  • Anti-malware - Sophos, ESET, mobile device management
  • Public Cloud - MS Azure, Amazon AWS
  • Proven experience working in a Senior SysAdmin, engineering or architectural role with 3rd line support
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Professional communication skills written and verbal
  • Ability to self-teach and expand knowledge
  • Stringent attention to detail, accuracy and quality
  • End to end ownership of tasks, projects and problem resolution
  • Adaptable to changes in workload or task priorities
  • Prince or equivalent project management methodology

  • Microsoft MCSE - Windows Server
  • VMware VCP - Datacenter Virtualisation
  • Citrix CCP - Virtualisation
  • Cisco CCNA - Routing and Switching

Working Hours

40 hours per week - 0900hrs - 1700hrs (Monday to Friday (Flexible)

Occasional evening/weekend work as required
