The Role: Shift Duty Manager - Rail freight terminal

Location: Hams Hall

The role of Shift Duty Manager is to take responsibility for the daily activities of the operational team based at Hams Hall. Ensuring ABP's Health & Safety standards are maintained at all times whilst delivering cost effective services, focusing on the highest levels of customer service.

Ensuring the safe, efficient and service focused operation is provided to our customers, in line with their needs, requirements and expectations.


·Responsible for the effective daily delivery of intermodal services at Hams Hall.

·Maintain security compliance at all times, ensuring checks are carried out as required on the site, inbound vehicles, containers, staff and 3rd parties as required.

·Ensure rail compliance is maintained at all times, ensuring checks and training are carried out as required.

·Develop direct links and relationships with customers, ensuring customer service requests are handled, owned and dealt with in a timely manner.

·Implementation of continuous Improvement initiatives to improve upon Safety, Operational & Financial KPI's.

·Lead by example supporting ABP's continual improvement culture amongst staff, through the development of improved systems/procedures that will drive forward all aspects of the terminal operation.

·Ensure stringent compliance to legislative and ABP's predefined Health, Safety & Environmental policies & guidelines.

·Ensuring that Health & Safety control measures are in place maintained and understood by all staff and visitors to the site.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications


·A sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and an ability to demonstrate a pro-active attitude to Health, Process Safety, Compliance and Environmental issues.

·Commercially astute and highly customer focussed

·NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent and be willing to advance to a higher competency

·Strong understanding of Rail Freight operations, regulations and standards.

·Experience of managing and developing teams

·Experience of working and making decisions in a pressurised environment with a track record of delivering results under these conditions.

·Have an understanding a quality system

·Full, driving licence

·Flexible due to challenging operational demands.


·Knowledge and understanding of DESEAR/ATEX requirements
