Manufacturing Engineer (CAD/CAM)

Permanent position

Double day shift Monday - Friday

Our Client

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing CAD/CAM Engineer (Applications Engineer job title) to join a leading organisation full time in North Birmingham. My client specialises in machined components for the Defence, Marine and Nuclear sectors. They require an experienced Manufacturing CAD/CAM Engineer to join the team on a full time/permanent basis.

Experience needed

* An Understanding of Solidworks and SolidCAM desirable but not essential

* HNC / City & Guilds / degree or time served apprentice in an engineering related subject

* Significant previous experience of engineering/manufacturing in a precision manufacturing environment is essential

* Excellent proven work experience in process engineering

* Excellent working knowledge of manufacturing systems, machining, assembly and test

* Proven ability with problem solving tools and techniques

* Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and NC code

* Experience in a metrics focused environment including weekly and monthly quarterly reporting and analysis

* Experience of working with and implementing Lean manufacturing tools and techniques

Key responsibilities

* Using and developing CNC program writing tools/software to provide the production machines with programs to enable the smooth running of the machines

* Designing and procuring relevant machine tool fixtures

* Identify and manage tooling requirements to achieve best machining practice

* Identify and Support manufacturing improvements/efficiencies to reduce manufacturing costs using lean methodology

* Support New Product Introduction prototype development actions as required

* Working with existing processes to provide the Planning department with accurate details of manufacture i.e. manufacturing routing and timing accuracy

* Maintaining & improving existing operations incorporating new methods and processes

* Providing technical expertise, support, and development on new and existing product lines

* Preparing manufacturing documentation and information required for product manufacture

* Liaising with Engineering to foresee any potential or current manufacturing problems

* Liaising with Sales, Engineering and Purchasing to supply cost estimates for new designs

* Liaising with suppliers and customers

* Support the CNC engineering team to support all areas of manufacturing relating to machined components

* Project managing of technical issues, new product introduction or existing product changes, pulling together external and internal resource when required, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budgets


* Holiday - 25 days per calendar year (Reserve 3.5 days for Christmas Shutdown, which is the week between Christmas and New Year) Plus 8 Statutory Days.
