The key responsibilities of an Optical Design Engineer include, but are not limited to:

Designing optical surfaces, lightguides and systems from concept through production
Checking the lighting specifications are in line with the simulation results
Preparing optical simulation results to the clients
Designing inspection instruments to test optical systems for defects
Collaborating with electrical and mechanical engineering staff to develop the overall design of the optical system
Organising and contributing to client meetings
Managing your own time according to the programme requirements

The Person

The key skills and qualities of an Optical Design Engineer:

Mechanical, Automotive Engineering degree or equivalent
Experience in Light Simulation of light systems using SPEOS CAA V5
Competent user of MS office packages
Strong project management and decision-making ability, someone who can analyse data and solve problems effectively
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Competent in the use of Catia V5 including surfaces
Understanding of exterior automotive lighting standards
