Unknown Recruitment is seeking a Design Engineer - Electric Machine / Electric Motor / E machine to join a world leading provider of technology, product innovation, engineering solutions and strategic consulting to the world's automotive industries with a network of technical centres worldwide.

The Design Engineer - Electric Machine / Electric Motor / E machine will report to the Chief Electrical Machines Engineer, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a broad engineering vision and a capability to tackle multi-disciplinary problems in this high-profile role. The work will involve designing and developing high performance rotating electrical machines, starting from customer requirements as well as engineering consultancy activities.

The candidate should be capable of working from broad requirements and be able to clearly communicate thoughts and ideas to other technical specialists within a multi-disciplined team.

Your main tasks and responsibilities as Design Engineer - Electric Machine / Electric Motor / E machine will include:

* Interpretation of electric machine, motor machine & machine requirements in collaboration with systems, hardware and mechanical engineers to generate detailed formal specifications.

* Conceptual design from first principals applied to permanent magnet, reluctance and induction machine types.

* Progressing machine designs from ideas to prototypes with the development of detailed models and supporting engineering documentation, through to participating in prototype build, testing and validation.

* Generation and execution of machine specific test plans, engineering documentations, coordinating investigation and undertake analysis where necessary to resolve performance issues.

* Supervising technical support staff during machine assembly and tes Supervising technical support staff during machine assembly and test.

* Ability to work professionally with suppliers and customers in support of project activities and goals;

* Generation and formal review of technical documentation from the design process;

* Participation in FMEA, HAZOP and other similar review techniques.

Design Engineer - Electric Machine / Electric Motor / E machine Requirements:

* Degree-qualified in an appropriate engineering discipline (Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering;.

* Ideally with limited experience in a similar role within an automotive and or aerospace engineering development environment;

* Experienced and familiar with using electromagnetic FEA tools (static and transient with motion solvers) together with other machine design tools such as MotorCAD and mechanical CAD;

* Understanding and limited experience of analysing / modelling loss mechanisms within rotating electrical machines. Transforming the loss mechanisms into thermal models to understand the thermal behaviour of a design under transient and steady state operational conditions;

* Experienced and familiar with mechanical design (3D CAD, drafting, tolerance stacks, hand calculations, basic structural FEA, material selection, manufacturing technology);

* Ideally familiar with small to medium volume manufacturing and assembly techniques appropriate to rotating electrical machines;

* experience in the use of model-based development tools including Matlab, Simulink;

* Familiarity (meaning the ability to understand) with external motor control systems including power electronics, control methods and position sensor requirements would be advantageous;

* Proficiency with standard office tools: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc;

* Analytical mind, ability to develop well-thought solutions with a keen eye for detail;

* Good written and verbal communication skills. German language skills would be advantageous;

* A team player with the additional ability to work alone unsupervised;

* Highly-motivated and capable of working on concurrent activities
