Austin Fraser are recruiting on behalf of a long term client for a Research Engineer. The engineer will be based in Coventry with a salary ranging from £35,000 to £45,000 dependent on experience.

The role has primary responsibility to carry out laboratory based test and development, focused on the next generation of prototypes with guidance from the wider team.
The engineer will also provide in-house support for other development purposes. They will provide
input and support where necessary to external business partners and work with various
stakeholders to de-risk and enhance current designs.

Principle Responsibilities

- Build and test electronic circuits and mechanical assemblies for prototyping and support of
research projects.
- Write and modify scripts for test automation in Python, C code.
- Support of development testing and product research.
- Modify PCBs and assemblies to meet requirements.
- Assist with 3D Printing and manufacture of testbench components.
- Laboratory housekeeping and lab equipment maintenance.

Required Skills knowledge and Experience
- An applicable degree level education in an Engineering/Physics based discipline or relevant
experience.
- Experience of software development with a good working knowledge of developing and
testing code in at least one of the programming languages Python, LabVIEW or C.
- A good appreciation of mechanical design principles.
- An understanding of good engineering practices in software and electronic design.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills.
- Proven experience of building analogue and digital electronics.
- Proven ability of fault finding at a circuit level.
- Proven experience in writing test automation code for test equipment e.g. signal generators,
stepper motors, spectrum analysers.
- Must have a professional "can do" attitude and be comfortable working in a small flexible
and dynamic team.
- An understanding of quality management systems.
- A good understanding of Microsoft Office suite.

Must have a current and valid UK / European driving licence

Desirable skills
- Experience with single board computers (e.g. Raspberry Pi, Arduino).
- Experience with 3D printing and CNC machines.
- Design of antenna systems.
- A working knowledge of multilayer PCB design processes and tools such as Altium or Eagle
