Transform lives - and gain career-enhancing qualifications - with West Midlands Police.
The West Midlands is one of Europe's most interesting policing environments. Serving 2.8million people in an area rich in diversity, around 30% of our population are from ethnic minority backgrounds, while under-25s account for nearly 40% of Birmingham's population - making it Europe's youngest city. At West Midlands Police, we are proud to serve this dynamic community. We are always looking for ways in which we can better provide our services to this large population, and as such, we have partnered with Staffordshire University to shape the most progressive Student Police Officer training programme.
Join us and train to be a Police Officer, studying for a Professional Policing Practice qualification whilst you work, combining your learning with on the job experience. There are two entry routes into the force, either on a Degree Apprenticeship or the Degree Holder Entry Programme. On both routes you will train towards an internationally recognised qualification in Professional Policing Practice.
While our HQ is in Birmingham, you could find yourself posted anywhere within the West Midlands region, in either a neighbourhood, response or investigations team. Taking on challenges such as the policing of Premier League football matches, or spectator safety at upcoming major events such as Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, you'll be faced with new challenges every day. Alternatively, you might investigate serious and organised crime, handle student safety issues across the region's numerous universities and colleges, or respond to emergency situations. Whatever circumstances you find yourself in, you will have plenty of training and support to develop the relevant expertise and skills - thereby enabling you to make a tangible difference to people's lives.
In order to deliver the best service to our local people, it's essential that we represent the diverse communities that we serve - so we're looking for individuals who have a range of life experiences and backgrounds to join us. You'll need a real passion for helping people, and the drive to make a difference in the West Midlands. With the flexibility to work shifts and the capacity to build relationships built on trust, you will partner with local communities, agencies and colleagues to deliver impactful results.
Joining on the Degree Apprenticeship Route, you will need to have Level 2 qualification in English and Maths and Level 3 qualifications in any subject(s) equating to 64 UCAS points. Successful candidates will be joining us in 2020, and can expect a starting salary of GBP21,525.
For the Degree Holder Entry Programme you will need to have achieved, or expect to achieve a Bachelors degree or higher, with start dates likely to be offered during 2020. You will start on an initial salary of GBP22,525 for the first year of your training.
Following the first year of training, your pay is determined by the national pay scales, currently GBP24,177 in the second year rising to GBP25,269 in the third. You'll also gain a fully-funded qualification, a generous pension and access to a large variety of benefits, staff associations and social clubs.
