Chair of Trustee Board
St John's School and College (St. John's) is an inspirational and innovative Sussex charity. St. John's is a special educational needs residential school and specialist college with adult residential care that provides education, care and medical therapy to young people aged 7 - 25. We are where we are today because of the work of generations of volunteers and philanthropic supporters - help us leave a legacy for future generations.
* St. John's has been in existence for nearly 140 years and employs over 420 staff and has a turnover in excess of GBP(phone number removed)
* Our main sites are in Brighton, but we also have important sites in Seaford
* However, we serve the South East Region as a whole and sometimes even further afield
* Many, but not all, of our young people are on the autistic spectrum.
St. John's is looking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees, an exciting opportunity to broaden the experience and steer the direction of the Trustee Board. At this point in our history we are looking for a new Chair who can bring insight from outside St. John's and help us plan the future of the Charity and offer support and challenge to our current thinking.
We are looking to expand our Trustee body with an enthusiastic and committed individual who can make a positive difference to the safety, welfare and development of our learners at both our school and college. As the Chair of our Trustee body you will be working closely with our Senior Leadership Team and our board of governors and the other trustees.
Chair of Trustees Desirable attributes:
* The Charity is looking for an experienced and well-connected person who can work closely with our CEO to develop and diversify the work of the Charity in the coming decades
* Your enthusiasm, legal and /or financial acumen and time for the role are more important than detailed knowledge of special educational needs
* You may have been an Accountant with substantial post-qualification experience
* You may have had substantial legal, business or other similar experience
* You may have had experience of fund-raising environments
* You will have had experience of Chairing meetings and committees
* This is an unpaid, voluntary position
