Projects are hardly ever within budget are they?!

Project Managers try their best to deliver a project within budget but they will largely focus on quality at the expense of the budget, so how do you deliver quality whilst maintaining control on the budgets? Well that's where you come in...

You are the biggest personality in every room you enter, that's why you can say "NO!" to a PM and he still wants to be your best friend. You're not just a nice person, but you're actually a very good Accountant too, you can do all the usual stuff like:

  • Management Accounts - accruals, prepayments, journals etc
  • Budget and Forecasts
  • Variance analysis

What you're really good at and where you really want to develop your skills is project controls.Trying to find that little bit extra in the budget somewhere, to be able to give the PM the good news. Enjoying the analysis is what has drawn you towards projects, creating efficiencies and saving money elsewhere so that the project becomes more profitable. You are now the big dog, that Accountant who isn't like the other Accountants, the one who will move heaven and earth to try and say "YES!" but still deliver on the budget.

I'll have to relinquish the flexibility I get in my current role though won't I??

Not at all...

  • Enjoy working from home? So long as you're not required to be in a meeting, what's the point in coming to the office. That's 60 minutes you can save that can be committed to your work.
  • Prefer being in the office because the dog won't leave you alone? Why not come in early and finish early, that way you can take the dog for a walk before it gets too dark
  • Love going on holidays? you get 25 plus BH, as well as being able to buy another 5 per year
  • Not finished your studies yet? CIMA or ACCA, covered so that your wage belongs to you
  • Cafe/Canteen onsite, as well as parking and a nice little pub that's not too far so after a hard days work you and the team can celebrate with some of Warwickshires finest Gin.

All sounds great but I bet the salary is where it becomes a complete let down...

GBP35-GBP37k enough for you? Annual pay reviews? Constant professional development?

Fine, but I bet I need every bullet point of the job description to even qualify...

  • Used an ERP? Yes? Then click apply
  • Managed budgets on a project? Yes? Then click apply

Still not convinced?
